If you cook, store, distribute or sell food in India, FSSAI is usually not optional. The confusion is which registration tier you need and what premises proof will survive scrutiny.
Choosing a tier
Basic, State and Central tiers follow notified eligibility. Use FoSCoS questions and official schedules — do not pick a tier from a blog memory.
Preparation and inspection mindset
Prepare identity, constitution, premises proof, layout where required, and accurate product/menu categories in portal vocabulary. Officers care about hygiene, pest control, segregation and whether declared activity matches the site.
Municipal health trade licence, fire NOC and Shop Act often sit beside FSSAI for dine-in restaurants.
